What's the difference?

Traditional medical lab tests are designed to identify the presence of disease, whereas functional medicine lab tests are designed to assess how well the systems of your body are functioning. It's a subtle, but important, difference.

As you know, there is a difference between "disease-free" and "healthy." Most of us get used to just "making do" with mild to severe chronic symptoms instead of feeling our absolute best. When we "make do" with our symptoms for a prolonged period of time, they tend to get a little worse and we begin to feel lethargic and exhausted. Over time, if our systems remain out of balance long enough, and the organs remain in a state of disrepair, "disease" sets in. (Disease is what happens to your body when it remains in a state of imbalance for so long that it is no longer able to continue functioning.) And "disease" is what will show up on traditional medical lab tests.
