Undiagnosed? Unresolved health issues? Dr. Daccardi can help you by phone or in person.
Has it been a long time since you felt your best, but you aren't sure why? Do you suffer with chronic pain, chronic digestive problems, or other difficult-to-diagnose health concerns? If you have unresolved health problems and haven't gotten any answers with traditional medical lab tests, don't lose hope. You are like most of our clients and may want to consider consulting an experienced Functional Medicine doctor.
How is Functional Medicine different?
Taking a Functional Medicine approach to your health concerns can provide insight into the causes of chronic health problems that a traditional medical approach cannot. This is because the practice of Functional Medicine is concerned with assessing your body's function as opposed to merely identifying the presence or absence of disease. It may seem like semantics, but, in reality, being healthy and merely being free of disease are two very different things. Most of our practice is comprised of people who have been dismissed by the medical community with a clean bill of health, but, in fact, don't feel well and continue to suffer with chronic symptoms, including digestion problems, inflammation, pain, migraines, etc.
"My lab tests say I'm normal, so why don't I feel well?"
Traditional medical lab tests are designed to identify the presence of disease, whereas functional medicine lab tests are designed to assess how well the systems of your body are functioning. It's a subtle, but important, difference.
As you know, there is a difference between "disease-free" and "healthy." Most of us get used to functioning at a sub-optimal level of health and "getting by" while experiencing mild to severe chronic symptoms. But, deep inside, we know that there's a difference between merely "getting by" and feeling truly healthy and energized. When the systems of the body remain out of balance for a prolonged period of time, it's normal to feel lethargic and exhausted. Over time, if the systems remain out of balance long enough, and the organs remain in a state of disrepair, "disease," sets in. Disease is what happens to your body when it remains in a state of imbalance for so long that it is no longer able to continue functioning. And "disease" is the realm of medical diagnosis.
